Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria (ARCN) ADOPTED VILLAGES GET EXTENSION TEACHING MATERIALS
The ARCN as a Agricultural statutory regulatory body is mandated to coordinate, supervise, monitor and evaluate Agricultural research, extension and training.
In line with President Muhammad Buhari Agricultural diversification agenda has distributed extension teaching materials to some of its adopted villages in some research institutions and Colleges nationwide.
Adopted villages were established late 2009 due to wide spread of rural poverty. Aimed to improved economic and livelihood of households within the villages with potential new technological ideas introduced to render extension services (workshops/meetings), identify capacity building needs of the villages and must importantly monitor the progress of implementation of the new ideas.
The ARCN, under the leadership of Prof. GARBA SHARUBUTU mni has resuscitated the ARCN adopted villages by distributing extension teaching materials to twelve (12) selected Agricultural Research Outreach Centres (AROC) of its research institutions and Federal Colleges.
Plastic chairs and tables, 3.5KVA Generator, 43" television, DVD, projector and it screen and Public address system respectively to enable the extension workers reached out to their audience in an efficient way audio visually.
In his remark the chairman House Committee on Agric Research institutions appreciated the E.S for reviving the AROC/ADOPTED VILLAGES to bring the agricultural transformation agenda to rural door steps.
In appreciation of the gesture, the Provost Fed. Col. of Animal Health, Vom DR Jude O. Okpara thanks the E.S for resuscitating moribund AROC/ADOPTED VILLAGES and assured him of proper used of the facilities given to them.
Beneficiaries include: N.V.R.I, Vom, Fed. Colleges of Animal Health, Vom & Ibadan respectively, Institute of Agricultural Research, Zaria, Federal Col. of Horticulture, Gombe among others
